Throwback Tuesday…You’re right, Thursday would sound better

ESPN has some of the best advertising out there for Sportscenter, here are a few of my favorite. I don’t think I need to dive in any more, just enjoy the hilarity.

Fiat’s are Cute and So is Their Print

Fiat and Leo Burnett, Spain came up with a clever ad campaign that shows the joy of spending time in your car. Luckily for all of us their print campaign doesn’t feature the unrealistic notion that JLo would ever actually sit in this brand of car which is why I consider it cute. The ads feature various situations where the protagonist enjoys the time spent driving to work and then driving home but in between is a dreary work day. The targeting is right on point and really speaks to the consumer because, let’s face it, like 99% of the world can relate to that feeling while at work. To take it a step further the agency employs numerous figures to fill the character role from an Alien to Superman to Prince Charming. Really great stuff and great illustration with a tag line that really sells the idea that Fiat is fun, “Fun Going There, Fun Going Back”. My favorite is after the fold, links for the rest to follow.  Continue reading

This Will Make You Throw Up

Granted I’m not a traveler so there could be some mis-communication here but I’m not really sure what this Danish ad is trying to push. Supposedly it’s an ad for a clothing brand but I’m not really entirely sure what the appeal of puking into a toilet bowl has to do with it? With the Tag “Taste Life” it seems more feasible that this ad is promoting bulemia instead of what they probably are truthfully promoting and that’s going out and getting FUBAR so you can spend the rest of your night puking…disgusting. What’s your opinion?

It’s Santa, Dawg

I’m not really that keen or over enthused about the whole agency holiday card thing but after watching “Epic Santa Dog” I may have to cut them some slack. This hilarious, random video of a dog just being a dog will probably be the highlight of my day. Not only is he so cute but he’s mischievous, playful and reminds us all that the holiday season is for fun and apparently for sex? Some weird clips did make the video but it doesn’t change the fact that now Whirled Creative has marked their territory, no pun intended, and are going to turn heads with this card. Link after the fold.  Continue reading

Watch Your Back Santa

Best buy is really taking it to St. Nick this holiday season in a hilarious way. The ads feature moms in Best Buy getting great deals on electronic gadgetry and essentially beating the jolly man from the North Pole in the competition of better gift giving.

Nothing says “seasons greetings” more than a competition to try to gain favor over loved ones by giving better gifts than someone else…heartwarming.

There are a variety of ads that follow this story from a mom texting Santa on cell phones that she bought at Best Buy to my personal favorite where a mom is waiting for him on her roof mocking him and his famous “Ho Ho Ho” bellow. All are equally funny yet are shocking not creating (from what I’ve seen) any controversy from any religious groups saying this is not what Christmas is all about. Well played Best Buy. See my favorite after the fold.  Continue reading

Michael Bay turns Video Game Trailer into Mini Movie

Lately theatrical video game trailers have been all the rage and now we are starting to see big time directors taking the helm and bringing them to the next level. One of those top tier directors is Transformers director Michael Bay who took the chair for Need for Speed: The Run. In typical Bay fashion there were tons of explosions, action and, surprisingly, plot in the 2-minute short that felt more like a mini movie than an actual trailer. If Bay ever needed a career after directing movies I think he can transition right into this field and not blink an eye. In a crowded market and short attention spans a two-minute trailer is hardly considered to be efficient let along effective but if more trailers are like this one…I’ll be watching for sure.  See the ad after the fold. USPS Launches New Ad Promoting Service

In an effort to boost revenue, the ailing United States Postal Service is pulling out all the stops and reminding people that paper is the way to send messages. Through the tired use of cliches this ad focuses on the uncertainty that looms out there on the internet. “Refrigerators never got hacked” one line claims and the others keep on coming. The spots overall aren’t horrible, they rely on the sentiment one feels when receiving an actual envelope in the mail or the security you feel when you have a receipt or physical bill. Personally, I liked this campaign better, but what can you do. Something seems a little too familiar in these ads and I think I finally pinned it down. The way the VO is read and the actors voice sound very familiar to the iPhone ads that are currently running. See for yourself! Continue reading

Dunkin’ Donuts K-Cup

It was really only a matter of time until Dunkin’ Donuts joined the K-Cup fray and tried to ultimately dominate in-home coffee consumption. I have to say I am kind of excited to see if it matches up because I really don’t want to keep spending a fortune on iced coffee, but I will if I have to. Anyway, Dunkin’ Donuts recently started running ads for the product and even though I enjoy the ad and I like the concept of it, something was a little off. The idea was to bring the Dunkin’ Donuts experience home with you, they threw in some impressive graphic imagery and good copy but I just couldn’t place what it was.

Dunkin' Donuts at your house? Yes, PLEASE!

…But That Doesn’t Mean They’re Easy to Share

Burger King has rolled out their new BK Mini ads and I am absolutely enamored with them. The use of humor is great which causes get recall, while reinforcing the fact that Burger King doesn’t take themselves to seriously. (I mean their corporate emails are name@whopper.com! Yes, for real!) Not to mention the ad, which you can find below, features one of the best tag lines I have ever heard in my life! Burger King and CP+B, their former agency of record, had a long, great relationship, and they left it off with this gem! Burger King moves on to mcgarrybowen from here on out who gets creative duties for the “good food quickly” chain. Enjoy!

AT&T Promotes Cheating?

Woahhhhhhhhhhhh, not that kind of cheating! Get yer mind outta that gutter! Yes, I am quite pleased with myself on that one, thanks!

AT&T is on a mission to really drill home that you can talk on their phone and surf the internet at the same time unlike their competitors over at Verizon. In this TV ad they prove how easy and effective it is by having a woman call into a radio station to win a contest. Despite a room full of prizes the woman still claims that she has never won when the DJ says “…you sound familiar, have you won before?”. After searching for the answer, of course it comes up super quick [unlike in real life], she wins the prize and has a choice of many options, all of which she has already. Including Edgar Winter!!
